An Introduction to Your 4-Day Arba Minch Cultural Adventure

Discover the remarkable cultural heritage, fascinating wildlife and beautiful landscapes of southern Ethiopia on this 4-Day / 3-Night Arba Minch Cultural Tour with Abyssinia Explorer Tours.

This carefully planned adventure combines three of the region’s most interesting destinations: the wildlife-rich waters of Lake Chamo, the traditional highland community of Dorze Village, and the UNESCO-listed Konso Cultural Landscape.

Travelling with experienced local guides, you’ll have opportunities to discover traditional customs, observe wildlife in its natural habitat and learn about the communities that make southern Ethiopia such a fascinating destination.

One of the main advantages of choosing our four-day itinerary is the opportunity to spend a night at Dorze Lodge, surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Guge Mountains.

With three nights of accommodation and a combination of cultural sightseeing, scenic journeys and wildlife experiences, this tour is ideal for travellers who want to discover southern Ethiopia without undertaking a demanding trekking expedition.

Already Travelling in Southern Ethiopia?

Our standard package begins in Addis Ababa and includes return domestic flights to Arba Minch.

However, if you’re already visiting southern Ethiopia, you can also arrange to begin your tour directly from Arba Minch.

We can discuss customised starting and finishing arrangements to suit your travel plans, subject to availability and practical travel logistics.

For more information about the wider region, explore our Omo Valley Cultural and Trekking Tours guide.

Please contact Abyssinia Explorer Tours to discuss availability, pricing and your preferred travel arrangements.

Additional Tour Arrangements — Addis Ababa and Arba Minch

At Abyssinia Explorer Tours, we understand that every traveller has different plans when visiting Ethiopia.

Whether you’re flying into Addis Ababa from overseas or are already exploring southern Ethiopia, we offer flexible starting arrangements to help you make the most of your 4-Day / 3-Night Arba Minch Cultural Tour.

For guests booking our standard Addis Ababa package, return domestic flights between Addis Ababa and Arba Minch are included in the tour price. These are arranged by our team, subject to available schedules with Ethiopian Airlines.

Alternatively, travellers who prefer to arrange their own transport can join the tour directly in Arba Minch, with domestic flights excluded from their package.

Both options include three nights of accommodation, meals, entrance fees, guided cultural experiences and ground transportation according to the confirmed itinerary.

Option 1 — Airport Welcome & Addis Ababa Experience

Additional cost: $300 USD

If you’re arriving in Ethiopia from overseas, we can arrange a convenient welcome package before your Southern Ethiopia adventure begins.

This optional service includes:

  • Meet and greet at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.
  • Transfer from the airport to your hotel.
  • Hotel accommodation in Addis Ababa.
  • Sightseeing arrangements in the Ethiopian capital.

Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to explore some of Addis Ababa’s attractions, sample traditional Ethiopian cuisine or experience the country’s famous coffee culture.

This is an ideal option for travellers who would prefer to arrive a day early, settle into their accommodation and prepare for their journey to Arba Minch.

Please note: If your international flight arrives late at night or early in the morning, let us know in advance so that we can help arrange a suitable airport pick-up and hotel transfer.

Option 2 – Start Your Tour Directly From Arba Minch

Price: $1230 (USD per person)

Already travelling through Ethiopia or planning to make your own way to southern Ethiopia?

At Abyssinia Explorer Tours, we offer an alternative starting option for travellers who prefer to begin their 4-Day / 3-Night Cultural Tour directly from Arba Minch rather than Addis Ababa.

Our local team will meet you at your hotel or another agreed collection point before beginning your guided adventure.

As domestic flights between Addis Ababa and Arba Minch are not included in this option, you’re free to organise your own travel arrangements before and after the tour.

Flexible Starting and Finishing Arrangements

Would you prefer to begin your tour in Arba Minch and finish somewhere else in southern Ethiopia?

We can also discuss customised starting and finishing arrangements, including possible transfers to or from Jinka where practical.

Alternative routes and transfers are subject to availability, road conditions and logistical considerations. Any additional costs will be confirmed before booking.

Important: Please contact us before making your booking to confirm your preferred starting location, travel dates, accommodation arrangements and departure plans.

Our team will be happy to help you choose the most suitable option for your journey.

Your 4-Day Arba Minch Cultural Tour Itinerary

Your four-day journey through southern Ethiopia has been carefully planned to give you time to explore each destination without rushing between activities.

Starting in Arba Minch, you’ll spend your first night near Lake Chamo before travelling into the Guge Mountains for an overnight stay at Dorze Lodge.

From here, your journey continues south to Konso, where you’ll spend your third night before returning to Arba Minch on the final day.

Your Four-Day Itinerary at a Glance

  • Day 1: Addis Ababa to Arba Minch – Lake Chamo boat excursion. Overnight in Arba Minch.
  • Day 2: Arba Minch to Dorze Village – Guided cultural experience. Overnight at Dorze Lodge.
  • Day 3: Dorze Village to Konso – Explore the UNESCO-listed Konso Cultural Landscape. Overnight in Konso.
  • Day 4: Konso to Arba Minch – Return domestic flight to Addis Ababa.

For guests joining the tour directly in Arba Minch, our local team will arrange collection from your agreed meeting point on Day 1.

Please note: The itinerary is subject to domestic flight schedules, road conditions, weather and local arrangements. In particular, the return journey from Konso must allow sufficient time to reach Arba Minch Airport. If a suitable same-day flight is unavailable, an adjustment or additional overnight stay may be necessary.

Day 1 – Addis Ababa to Arba Minch: Lake Chamo Boat Excursion

Your 4-Day Arba Minch Cultural Tour begins with a morning domestic flight from Addis Ababa to Arba Minch, where you’ll be welcomed by your local guide and driver before setting off to discover the beautiful landscapes and wildlife of southern Ethiopia.

For travellers who have arranged their own transport to Arba Minch, our local team will meet you at your agreed collection point.

Today’s main highlight is a guided boat excursion on Lake Chamo, one of the most fascinating wildlife destinations in Ethiopia’s southern Rift Valley.

Man in Canoe Lake Chamo Ethiopia

Surrounded by beautiful scenery, the lake is particularly famous for its large Nile crocodiles, hippos and diverse birdlife.

As you travel across the water with your local boat operator, keep an eye out for crocodiles resting along the shoreline, hippos emerging from the water and birds such as pelicans, herons and cormorants.

One of the lake’s best-known attractions is an area commonly referred to as the Crocodile Market, where large Nile crocodiles are sometimes seen basking near the water’s edge.

Although wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, this excursion offers an exciting opportunity to appreciate the region’s natural environment and learn about the importance of Lake Chamo’s ecosystem.

Following your boat trip, return to Arba Minch and check into your hotel.

You’ll have the remainder of the day to relax, enjoy the surrounding scenery and prepare for tomorrow’s journey into the Dorze highlands.

Overnight: Arba Minch – Hotel accommodation (property to be confirmed).

Activities: Domestic flight from Addis Ababa to Arba Minch, airport collection, guided Lake Chamo boat excursion, wildlife viewing and hotel transfer.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included, subject to arrival and flight arrangements.

Please note: Lake Chamo boat excursions depend on suitable weather, water conditions and local operating arrangements. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Day 2 – Arba Minch to Dorze Village: Cultural Experience and Overnight at Dorze Lodge

After breakfast at your hotel in Arba Minch, continue your four-day adventure with a scenic drive into the Guge Mountains, where you’ll visit a traditional Dorze village near Chencha.

As you travel into the highlands, enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, cultivated hillsides and the Great Rift Valley below.

The Dorze people are particularly well known for their distinctive traditional houses, skilled weaving techniques and agricultural heritage.

During your guided village visit, you’ll discover the remarkable bamboo-built houses that have become one of the most recognisable features of Dorze culture.

Often compared to the shape of an elephant’s head, these tall, curved structures demonstrate generations of traditional craftsmanship and architectural knowledge.

Traditional elephant-shaped bamboo houses in Dorze Village Ethiopia

You’ll also learn about the community’s weaving traditions, including the production of shammas, traditional handwoven cotton cloths used in Ethiopian clothing.

Another fascinating part of your visit is discovering the importance of enset, commonly known as false banana, which provides an essential food source for many communities in southern Ethiopia.

With the assistance of your local guide, you’ll gain an insight into traditional food preparation, local craftsmanship and the relationship between Dorze culture and the surrounding natural environment.

Depending on local arrangements, you may also have opportunities to observe weaving demonstrations, experience a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony or participate in other cultural activities.

Throughout your visit, your guide will help facilitate respectful interactions with local residents and explain the importance of asking permission before taking photographs.

An Overnight Stay at Dorze Lodge

One of the highlights of this four-day itinerary is the opportunity to spend the night at Dorze Lodge, rather than returning directly to Arba Minch.

Dorze Lodge accommodation in the Guge Mountains southern Ethiopia

In the afternoon, you’ll settle into your accommodation and have time to appreciate the peaceful highland atmosphere and beautiful surrounding scenery.

This overnight stay offers a more relaxed conclusion to your Dorze cultural experience, giving you additional time to enjoy the mountain setting before continuing towards Konso the following morning.

Overnight: Dorze Lodge.

Activities: Scenic drive from Arba Minch into the Guge Mountains, guided Dorze Village cultural visit, traditional bamboo architecture, weaving and enset cultivation, with optional cultural demonstrations subject to local availability.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Please note: Cultural demonstrations, coffee ceremonies and other community activities depend on local arrangements and availability. Temperatures in the Dorze highlands can be cooler than in Arba Minch, particularly during the evening.

Day 3 – Dorze Village to Konso: Discover the UNESCO Cultural Landscape

After breakfast at Dorze Lodge, continue your four-day adventure as you leave the beautiful Guge Mountains behind and travel south towards Konso, one of southern Ethiopia’s most fascinating cultural destinations.

Along the way, enjoy the changing scenery as you pass through rural settlements, cultivated farmland and the remarkable landscapes of southern Ethiopia.

Today’s main highlight is a guided visit to the Konso Cultural Landscape, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011 for its remarkable agricultural traditions, fortified settlements and cultural heritage.

The Konso people are particularly well known for their impressive dry-stone terraces, developed over generations to conserve soil, reduce erosion and support farming in the region’s challenging environment.

During your visit, you’ll discover how these traditional agricultural systems have helped local communities adapt to their surroundings while preserving important knowledge and customs.

Exploring a Traditional Konso Village

Accompanied by your local guide, you’ll have the opportunity to explore a traditional Konso village, where stone walls, narrow pathways and distinctive architecture reflect the community’s history and way of life.

Traditional Konso village with stone walls and thatched houses in Ethiopia

Your guide will introduce you to the significance of the fortified settlements and explain how generations of Konso communities have organised their villages around shared traditions and communal spaces.

Depending on the village visited, you may also learn about mora, traditional communal gathering places, and generation poles associated with the Konso people’s social and cultural traditions.

Another interesting aspect of Konso heritage is the tradition of waka, carved wooden memorial figures associated with respected deceased community members.

These figures form part of the region’s distinctive funerary traditions, although opportunities to see them depend on the village visited and local arrangements.

Throughout your cultural experience, your guide will help facilitate respectful interactions with local residents and explain the importance of asking permission before taking photographs.

Following your visit, transfer to your accommodation in Konso, where you’ll have time to relax and reflect on the day’s experiences before your return journey to Arba Minch the following morning.

Overnight: Konso – Hotel accommodation (property to be confirmed).

Activities: Scenic drive from Dorze Village to Konso, guided exploration of the UNESCO-listed Konso Cultural Landscape, traditional village visit, agricultural terraces, fortified settlements and cultural heritage.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Please note: The villages, cultural features and activities available during your visit will depend on local access arrangements, community permissions and the time available.

Day 4 – Konso to Arba Minch: Return Flight to Addis Ababa

After breakfast at your hotel in Konso, prepare for the final day of your 4-Day Arba Minch Cultural Tour as you begin your journey back towards Arba Minch.

Travelling north through the beautiful countryside of southern Ethiopia, you’ll pass traditional villages, cultivated farmland and scenic landscapes, offering another opportunity to appreciate the region’s natural beauty and rural way of life.

Depending on your return flight schedule, there may be opportunities for brief photography stops along the way.

However, the main priority will be ensuring you arrive at Arba Minch Airport with sufficient time for your scheduled domestic flight.

Upon reaching Arba Minch, travellers who have booked our standard Addis Ababa package will transfer to the airport for their return flight to the Ethiopian capital.

For guests who have booked the Arba Minch-start package, your tour concludes in Arba Minch with your agreed drop-off arrangements.

As you complete your journey, you’ll leave with memories of the wildlife-rich waters of Lake Chamo, the traditional architecture and weaving heritage of the Dorze people, and the remarkable cultural landscape of Konso.

From beautiful highland scenery to centuries-old agricultural traditions, this four-day adventure offers a memorable introduction to the cultural and natural wonders of southern Ethiopia.

Overnight: Not included – Tour concludes in Addis Ababa or Arba Minch, depending on your chosen package.

Activities: Scenic drive from Konso to Arba Minch, optional photography stops (subject to available time), airport transfer and return domestic flight to Addis Ababa for standard-package guests.

Meals: Breakfast included. Lunch arrangements will depend on the departure schedule.

Important: Return domestic flights are subject to airline schedules and availability. The journey from Konso to Arba Minch must allow sufficient time for the airport transfer and check-in.

If the available flight schedule does not permit a comfortable same-day transfer, an additional overnight stay in Arba Minch or an adjustment to the itinerary may be necessary. Our team will discuss any changes and associated costs with you before booking.

Tour End and Transfer

Your 4-Day Arba Minch Cultural Tour concludes with your return journey from Konso to Arba Minch, followed by a domestic flight to Addis Ababa for guests booking our standard package.

Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, your included flight arrangements will be complete. If you require additional transfers, accommodation or assistance with onward travel, please let our team know before booking so that suitable arrangements can be discussed.

We strongly recommend allowing sufficient time between your domestic arrival and any connecting international flights, particularly in case of delays or schedule changes.

Finishing Your Tour in Arba Minch

For guests booking our Arba Minch-start package, the standard tour concludes in Arba Minch following your final agreed transfer.

If you would prefer to finish your journey in Jinka or another destination in southern Ethiopia, please contact our team before booking.

Customised finishing arrangements may be possible, depending on your chosen route, available transport and travel schedule. Any additional costs will be confirmed in advance.

Important travel information: Domestic flights are subject to airline schedules and availability. If a suitable same-day return flight from Arba Minch to Addis Ababa is unavailable, an additional overnight stay or adjustment to the itinerary may be necessary.

Any additional accommodation, transfers or onward travel arrangements will be discussed and confirmed with you before booking.

Why Choose This 4-Day Arba Minch Cultural Tour?

Choosing the right tour is about more than simply visiting famous attractions. It’s also about having enough time to enjoy each destination, experience local culture and travel comfortably.

Here are some of the reasons why our 4-Day Arba Minch Cultural Tour could be the perfect choice for your southern Ethiopia adventure.

1. A More Relaxed Alternative to Our Three-Day Tour

Our four-day itinerary provides additional time to enjoy southern Ethiopia without combining too many activities into a single day.

Rather than visiting Dorze Village and Lake Chamo on the same day, you’ll experience these destinations separately, allowing more time for cultural discovery and relaxation.

2. Spend a Night in the Dorze Highlands

One of the biggest advantages of this itinerary is the overnight stay at Dorze Lodge.

Instead of returning to Arba Minch immediately after your cultural visit, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the peaceful mountain surroundings and cooler highland atmosphere.

This makes the four-day tour particularly appealing to travellers who appreciate scenic accommodation and a slower pace.

3. Experience Both Culture and Wildlife

This itinerary offers an interesting balance between cultural sightseeing and natural attractions.

You’ll have opportunities to observe wildlife around Lake Chamo while also learning about the traditional communities and heritage of southern Ethiopia.

It’s an excellent option for travellers who want more variety than a tour focused exclusively on wildlife or cultural experiences.

4. Travel With Experienced Local Guides

Our local guides help you discover the history, customs and traditions of the places you visit.

Their knowledge also helps facilitate respectful cultural interactions and provides valuable insight into the region beyond its main tourist attractions.

5. Flexible Packages and Private Arrangements

We offer different starting arrangements depending on your travel plans.

Choose our standard package from Addis Ababa, including return domestic flights, or arrange to join the tour directly from Arba Minch.

Group discounts and customised travel arrangements may also be available upon request.

Contact Abyssinia Explorer Tours to discuss your preferred travel dates and package options.

How Difficult Is the 4-Day Arba Minch Cultural Tour?

Difficulty Level: Easy

Our 4-Day / 3-Night Arba Minch Cultural Tour is suitable for most travellers and does not require previous trekking experience or a high level of physical fitness.

This itinerary focuses primarily on cultural sightseeing, wildlife experiences and guided community visits, with most journeys taking place by vehicle.

Some activities involve short walks through traditional villages, particularly around Dorze Village and the Konso Cultural Landscape, where pathways may be uneven, dusty, rocky or occasionally steep.

The Lake Chamo boat excursion also requires passengers to board and disembark from a boat, which may involve uneven or slippery surfaces depending on local conditions.

Although the tour is rated Easy, travellers should be prepared for several hours of road travel, warm daytime temperatures around Arba Minch and potentially cooler conditions in the Dorze highlands.

Unlike our more demanding trekking itineraries, this four-day adventure does not involve long-distance hiking or overnight camping.

Travelling With Mobility Requirements?

If you have mobility requirements or concerns about participating in particular activities, please let our team know before booking.

We’ll be happy to discuss your individual needs, the accessibility of planned visits and any suitable adjustments that may be possible.

Overall, this four-day experience is an excellent option for travellers who want to discover the cultural heritage, fascinating wildlife and beautiful landscapes of southern Ethiopia without undertaking a physically demanding expedition.

Wildlife & Nature – Discover Lake Chamo and Southern Ethiopia

Beyond its fascinating cultural heritage, southern Ethiopia offers remarkable natural landscapes and opportunities to observe wildlife.

During your 4-Day Arba Minch Cultural Tour, you’ll experience the contrasting environments of Lake Chamo, the Dorze highlands and the UNESCO-listed Konso Cultural Landscape.

Lake Chamo – Crocodiles, Hippos and Birdlife

Located within Ethiopia’s Great Rift Valley, Lake Chamo supports a fascinating variety of wildlife.

The lake is particularly famous for its large Nile crocodiles, often associated with an area known as the Crocodile Market. Hippos and numerous waterbirds, including pelicans, herons and cormorants, also inhabit the surrounding waters and wetlands.

Hippopotamus in the waters of Lake Chamo southern Ethiopia

Your guided boat excursion offers opportunities for wildlife observation and photography, although sightings depend on local conditions and cannot be guaranteed.

The Guge Mountains – Discover the Dorze Highlands

Travelling from Arba Minch into the Guge Mountains, you’ll notice a change from the warmer Rift Valley lowlands to cooler, greener highland scenery.

The surrounding cultivated hillsides and traditional settlements provide a beautiful setting for your cultural visit and overnight stay at Dorze Lodge.

Konso – A Landscape Shaped by Generations

The Konso Cultural Landscape demonstrates how generations of local communities have adapted to their natural environment.

Its remarkable dry-stone agricultural terraces help conserve soil, manage water and support traditional farming practices.

These landscapes form an important part of Konso’s UNESCO-recognised cultural heritage, illustrating the close relationship between people, agriculture and the environment.

Please note: This is primarily a cultural tour rather than a dedicated wildlife safari. Wildlife sightings and outdoor activities depend on weather, local conditions and accessibility.

Accommodation and Optional Camping in Arba Minch, Dorze Village and Konso

Our 4-Day / 3-Night Arba Minch Cultural Tour includes three nights of accommodation, allowing you to relax after each day’s cultural sightseeing and wildlife experiences.

Unlike our shorter three-day itinerary, this tour includes an overnight stay in the Dorze highlands, giving you more time to appreciate the beautiful mountain scenery and peaceful surroundings.

Where Will You Stay During Your Tour?

Accommodation is arranged as follows:

  • Night 1 – Arba Minch: Hotel accommodation, with the property confirmed before departure.
  • Night 2 – Dorze Village: Dorze Lodge, situated in the scenic Guge Mountains.
  • Night 3 – Konso: Hotel accommodation, with the property confirmed before departure.

Your first night in Arba Minch provides an opportunity to relax after your Lake Chamo boat excursion.

On your second night, you’ll stay at Dorze Lodge, surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Dorze highlands. This is one of the main highlights of the four-day itinerary, offering a different experience from staying in Arba Minch.

Your final night will be spent in Konso, allowing you to explore the region’s cultural heritage before returning to Arba Minch on Day 4.

Our team will coordinate your accommodation arrangements as part of your chosen tour package.

Can You Camp During This Tour?

Although lodge and hotel accommodation are included in our standard four-day itinerary, travellers interested in a more adventurous experience can contact us to discuss alternative arrangements.

Depending on your group size, preferred itinerary and local conditions, camping or other accommodation options may be possible as part of a customised tour.

Camping is not included in the standard package, and any alternative arrangements, availability and additional costs must be agreed upon before booking.

If you have particular accommodation preferences or would like to discuss a customised experience, please contact Abyssinia Explorer Tours before making your booking.

  • Three nights of accommodation, including Dorze Lodge.
  • Guided cultural visits and entrance fees.
  • Lake Chamo boat excursion arrangements.

Our aim is to make your journey as straightforward and enjoyable as possible, allowing you to concentrate on discovering southern Ethiopia.

What to Bring For Your Tour?

Preparing for your 4-Day Arba Minch Cultural Tour doesn’t require specialist trekking equipment. However, packing a few essentials will help you stay comfortable while exploring southern Ethiopia’s traditional villages, beautiful landscapes and wildlife destinations.

Essential Clothing and Equipment

  • Comfortable walking shoes – Suitable for village visits and occasional uneven or rocky pathways around Dorze and Konso.
  • Lightweight, breathable clothing – Ideal for warmer daytime temperatures around Arba Minch and Lake Chamo.
  • Warm jacket or fleece – Particularly important for your overnight stay at Dorze Lodge, where highland temperatures can be considerably cooler.
  • Sun hat and sunglasses – Useful during outdoor sightseeing and your Lake Chamo boat excursion.
  • High-SPF sunscreen – Recommended for protection against strong sunshine.
  • Lightweight rain jacket – Worth bringing during wetter periods.
  • Small daypack – For carrying water, sunscreen, snacks and other daily essentials.

Personal Items

  • Insect repellent – Particularly useful around Lake Chamo and rural areas.
  • Personal toiletries and tissues – Facilities may be basic during some cultural visits.

Additional Tips for Your Lake Chamo Boat Excursion

As your itinerary includes a guided boat excursion on Lake Chamo, we recommend protecting your camera, phone and other valuables from water.

A small waterproof pouch or dry bag can be useful.

Always follow your boat operator’s safety instructions, wear a suitable life jacket and maintain a safe distance from wildlife.

Preparing for Your Overnight Stay at Dorze Lodge

Unlike our shorter three-day itinerary, this tour includes an overnight stay in the Dorze highlands.

We particularly recommend bringing a warm layer for the evening and early morning, along with comfortable clothing suitable for the cooler mountain environment.

Note on Luggage

As this is primarily a vehicle-based cultural tour, you won’t need to carry your main luggage during sightseeing activities.

We recommend bringing a small daypack for your daily essentials, with your main luggage transported in the tour vehicle, subject to available space.

Night 2: Dorze Lodge in the Guge Mountains.
Night 3: Hotel in Konso.

Accommodation details will be confirmed as part of your booking arrangements.

Is the 4-Day Arba Minch Cultural Tour Difficult?

No. This tour is classified as Easy and is suitable for most travellers who are comfortable with road journeys, short walks and cultural sightseeing.

There is no strenuous trekking involved, although some village pathways may be uneven and boarding the boat on Lake Chamo requires reasonable mobility.

Can We See Crocodiles and Hippos on Lake Chamo?

Lake Chamo is known for its Nile crocodiles, hippos and diverse birdlife.

Your itinerary includes a guided boat excursion offering opportunities to observe these animals in their natural environment.

However, wildlife sightings are never guaranteed and depend on weather, water levels and local conditions.

Are Meals Included Throughout the Tour?

Yes. Meals are included according to your confirmed itinerary, with breakfast, lunch and dinner arranged during the tour.

On Day 4, lunch will be provided depending on your departure time.
Please let us know about any dietary requirements or food allergies before booking.

Can We Start the Tour in Arba Minch Instead of Addis Ababa?

Yes. Travellers already visiting southern Ethiopia can arrange to begin the tour directly from Arba Minch.

This alternative package excludes the return domestic flights from Addis Ababa and is priced separately.

Other customised starting arrangements may also be discussed with our team, subject to availability and practical travel logistics.

Incredible

I had a wonderful experience with Abyssinia Explorer Tour in Ethiopia! If you are interested in coffee, culture, and discovering the real Ethiopia, I definitely recommend them.

Asmir, our guide, was fantastic. His English was excellent, he was very knowledgeable and kind, and he made the whole experience feel natural. What I appreciated most was that it didn’t feel like I was just following a tour guide around. We connected so well that he actually became a friend along the way.

The coffee tours were a great way to learn more about Ethiopian coffee culture, which is like… such a rich history and tradition. You could really appreciate the experience beyond just drinking coffee. It was the nature, the people, the real africa…

Overall, it was a memorable experience, discoveries, and genuine human connection. Asmir really made the difference, he was a very interesting person with such a crazy interesting story ! I am grateful to have met him. I definitely recommend Abyssinia Explorer Tour to anyone visiting Ethiopia!

I had a bike tour of Addis with Absynnia. It was a lovely experience. I got to experience lovely parts of the city and the Guide Asmir was wonderful and very helpful. I only wish I had more time to stay there because they offer so many more experiences I would love to try. Maybe next time

Glance in to a new world

October 1, 2026

I did several tours with this company. We visited Debre Libanos, Debre Zeyt with the Crater Lakes, and the Awash National Park. We had great tour guides by our side. Especially Joshua and Asmir! They did everything to make our time better. Not only during the tour but also with hotels, flight -tickets, and even a hospital visit on their day off. I am really grateful for them.

The things we experienced on our tours were simply amazing. As a Swiss going to Ethiopia for the first time, I couldn’t be more entertained than I was. We didn’t only visit the sightseeing spots, we also got a deeper look into the county outside the spotlight, and we could see how people were actually living their lives. On our trip to Debre Libanos, we even get the chance to spontaneously visit a wedding, which will forever be a core memory of my life!

I wasn’t sure what to expect at first

”After having some initial trouble with booking my first Ethiopian Tour the day before I was very happy to speak to Amir and with the arrangements to make sure I was picked up nearby where I was staying. This is without going on the tour – I really love my wildlife and history and seeing the wild Baboons and learning about the Debre Libanos Monastery was such an Incredible day out for me.”
